SUMMARY:Children's Theatre Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Grandpa’s Golden Stories \nWritten by Dan Olson\nDirected by Tessa Lang \nCome enjoy some of the classic tales and stories that we all grew up reading together on our parents’ and grandparents’ laps. \nWith Grandma off at a meeting\, Grandpa tries to keep his visiting grandkids off their “devices” and get them ready for bed by reading some old-time tales. As he reads\, young actors (grades 1-12) bring these stories to life on the stage. Grandpa gives his own spin on classics such as The Elves and the Shoemaker\, Hansel and Gretel\, The Tortoise and the Hare\, The Six Fishermen\, The Pied Piper of Hamelin\, and Three Billy Goats Gruff. \n Join us for a performance as our talented area youth bring the magic combination of storytelling and theater to life at Roosevelt Hall! \n\nFriday\, August 9\, 7 p.m.\nSaturday\, August 10\, 2 p.m.\nSaturday\, August 10\, 5 p.m.\n\n

SUMMARY:Grandpa's Golden Stories
DESCRIPTION:Written by Dan Olson\nDirected by Tessa Lang \nCome enjoy some of the classic tales and stories that we all grew up reading together on our parents’ and grandparents’ laps. \n Join us for a performance as our talented area youth bring the magic combination of storytelling and theater to life at Roosevelt Hall on Friday August 9\, at 7 p.m. or Saturday August 10\, at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. \n\n\n \nPhotos below from Jack & the Virus (2023 Children’s Production)

SUMMARY:Barefoot in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Meet Paul and Corie Bratter\, newlyweds in every sense of the word. He’s a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and she’s a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. Their new apartment is her most recent find – too expensive with bad plumbing and in need of a paint job. After a six-day honeymoon\, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic\, Velasco\, where everything that can go wrong does. Paul just doesn’t understand Corie\, as she sees it. He’s too staid\, too boring\, and she just wants him to be a little more spontaneous. Running “barefoot in the park” would be a start… Let the laughter begin! \nFrom Neil Simon\, American playwright and screenwriter\, and the master of modern romantic comedy. Simon is widely regarded as one of the most successful\, prolific and performed playwrights in theatre history. “Barefoot in the Park” premiered on Broadway in 1963\, starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda. It won a Tony Award and is Neil Simon’s longest-running Broadway show.

SUMMARY:Hank & Jesus
DESCRIPTION:A drama-comedy by Janet Preus\nwith songs by Janet Preus and Bryan Cumming \nSet in rural Minnesota in the 1990s\, this alternative holiday play celebrates simple miracles: recovery\, reuniting with family\, friendship\, and writing a great country tune. “Hank & Jesús” (Spanish pronunciation) is about redemption in the face of failure; the importance of family\, even when relationships have eroded; and the value of hanging on to our dreams. Both poignant and funny\, this play celebrates regular folks overcoming challenges and creating a hopeful future. \nThe Prairie Wind Players cast includes Daniel Olson\, Fergus Falls\, as “Hank” and Steven Collazos\, Barrett\, as “Jesús.” Melanie Courrier\, Kensington; Annie Wehrly\, Elbow Lake; David Ehlers\, Elbow Lake; Kayleigh Odegaard\, Barrett; Chloe Woida\, Alexandria; and Tim Ray\, Barrett complete the cast. Emily Courrier\, Kensington\, serves as production assistant and stage manager. \nWritten by Janet Preus\, with songs by Preus and Byan Cumming\, Nashville\, Preus also directs. She is a native of Fergus Falls and was a teacher and drama director at Minnesota State Community and Technical College (Fergus Falls) for many years. She now lives near Laporte\, Minn. \nComments from a Minnesota Fringe Festival production: \n\n“Lovely\, funny\, and sharp. Janet Preus’ cast puts just the right spin on these mostly-Minnesota characters who orbit the world of Hank\, aka Trevor\, a regular guy who’s just trying to make his way in the world by way of songwriting\, staying sober\, and regular employment. It never gets preachy or 12-steppy but keeps the tone light while asking us some surprisingly deep questions. You’ll find yourself singing along at the end\, even though it’s a song you’ve never heard before.” \n“A dash of “Christmas in July” for Fringe viewers featuring a Northern MN family we all probably recognize. and original Country songs that are bad when they need to be funny and good when they need to be good.” \n“A very clever twist on the holiday play.” \n“Everyone needs a personal Hay-Soos”
